Licensee is obliged to provide documentation of where licenses come from, a full license chain and a deletion statement from the previous owner, to ensure they have uninstalled the software.

The Legal Foundation

The transfer of software licenses, given specific conditions are met, is legal in the EU EFTA trade zone. Same conditions still apply to the UK market after Brexit. The legal basis for this is referred to as the ‘principle of exhaustion’. This principle means that the copyright holder’s exclusive right to distribute a copy of a copyrighted product is exhausted on its first legal sale.
